The late afternoon sun warmed Mrs. Gable's face as she sat on her porch swing, the gentle creaks a calming rhythm. A light breeze rustled the leaves of the old oak tree in her yard, creating a soft, whispering sound. Her hands were folded loosely in her lap, and her eyes, closed against the glare, felt heavy with contentment.

A small package, wrapped in colorful paper and tied with a ribbon, sat on the doormat. She hadn't expected any visitors. Rising slowly, she went to retrieve it, her movements unhurried. The bow was slightly lopsided, suggesting it had been tied with care, and she smiled as she brought it inside.

It was from Michael, a student from twenty years ago. Inside was a hand-painted mug, depicting her favorite wildflower. A note tucked in, reading, “Thank you for everything, Mrs. Gable. You made a difference.” She took a sip of her tea, the warmth spreading through her chest.
