"Just a little longer," she whispered to herself. The warm water of the bath enveloped her, easing the ache in her shoulders. Steam rose, carrying with it the scent of lavender. A simple, comfortable life.

A small delivery notice had been left at her door. Inside, a beautiful, hand-bound journal. A letter written in elegant script was addressed to her. It was from Emily, a girl she’d taught only a year ago. She unfolded the note.

“Thank you for believing in me, even when I didn't believe in myself.” Tears blurred her vision, but they were tears of peace. She traced the cover, her fingers tracing the intricate design. She resolved to start writing in it tonight.
