The snow fell softly outside, blanketing the world in a pristine white. Professor Anya sat in her favorite armchair, a warm blanket draped over her legs. The fire crackled in the fireplace, throwing warm shadows on the walls.

A small, ornate package was at her door. Inside, a beautiful, hand-painted portrait. It was from Liam, a student who had always been artistic. The face of the portrait was smiling.

The note was short but eloquent: "You saw me." She let the words sink in. She placed the portrait on the mantelpiece, where she could see it every day. A feeling of peace filled her.
