He noticed Ms. Evans, his neighbor, step out of her front door, a woman he often saw walking her dog. She was wearing a simple dress, her hair pulled back in a ponytail. She appeared ordinary.

She was getting into a private helicopter that had just landed on her lawn. The rotors began to whir, and she waved as it lifted off. Liam returned to his book, his eyes moving across the pages. The helicopter's noise quickly faded into the background.
