The bathwater was the perfect temperature, a warm embrace against his skin. He leaned back, eyes closed, listening to the gentle hiss of the water dripping from the faucet. The scent of lavender filled the air, a soothing balm to his frayed nerves. He’d lit several candles, their flickering flames casting dancing shadows on the tiled walls.

The news was a cold splash of reality: the building was going condo. A flyer had been slipped under the door. He’d read it, of course, but the details had barely registered.

He took a slow, deep breath, letting the steam fill his lungs. He was going to start fresh.
