Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the apartment. I hummed softly as I pulled a loaf from the oven, the crust golden brown and fragrant. The kitchen, with its well-worn countertops and sun-drenched windows, was my sanctuary. I had a feeling that I was in a place that no one could take away from me.

The dreaded notice was on the counter, the words "Condo Conversion" looming over everything. I picked it up, feeling the paper crinkle in my fingers. I could feel my blood pressure rising a little. I set the paper aside, though, and turned my focus back to my bread, the warmth and the scent a welcome distraction.

I was feeling, more than anything, content.
