Thomas leaned back in his worn armchair, the afternoon sun warming his face. The air smelled of freshly brewed coffee, a comforting aroma that filled the small apartment. He flipped through the pages of a well-loved novel, the rustling paper a gentle background noise to the quiet of the room. A soft sigh escaped him as he settled in to read. His phone chimed, breaking the silence.

The notification was from his old university. He wasn’t usually one to check these types of things. A hesitant hand reached for it, though. There was a link to an online resource. His eyes widened slightly as the page loaded.

A sense of mild astonishment blossomed within him. His words, his essay from years ago, were highlighted as an example. It felt akin to being perfectly aligned with the world. He felt an urge to smile, but it wasn't a strong urge. He simply…felt.
