Gemotions

The train rumbled along the tracks, a rhythmic pulse that soothed Maya's nerves. Outside, the landscape flowed by, a blur of green fields and blue sky. She closed her eyes, letting the gentle rocking motion lull her into a state of deep calm. She had decided to stop checking her emails for work, and had gotten into the habit of enjoying the small moments. When her phone vibrated, she was slightly jolted back to alertness.

Another email. She opened it, a flicker of something close to amusement playing at the corners of her mouth. The university's newsletter. She had to admit, the school's PR team was persistent. A click.

Her essay. The words, the very sentences she had crafted years ago, were now on display for anyone to read. She felt a lightness in her chest, a feeling not unlike the sensation of slowly floating.
