The concert hall was a cacophony of sound, a blur of faces and flashing lights. But for Ava, everything had narrowed, focused on the young woman waving her arm near the stage. On the girl’s forearm, the image of Ava’s swirling galaxy painting was tattooed, complete with her signature hidden constellation.

Ava's stomach twisted. She gripped the railing so tightly her knuckles whitened. The music, which she usually found invigorating, now sounded like a distorted echo in her ears.

She closed her eyes, trying to block out the sensation that the world was spinning. She felt like she was trapped in a dream.
