Gemotions

The gravel crunched under her boots as she strode towards her car. It wasn't there. Her stomach lurched. It was a brand new car, the culmination of years of saving. The driveway seemed to shrink, to hold her captive within its emptiness.

She scanned the street, then her eyes darted back to the empty space. A wave of panic rose within her, hot and suffocating. She grabbed her purse, fumbling with the clasp. Her fingers were clumsy. Her breath came in shallow, uneven gasps.

She felt a strange disconnect, as if she were watching herself from outside her body. The sun felt too bright, the air too thin. She wanted to scream, but no sound would come. She sank onto the curb, utterly defeated, the smooth concrete a cold comfort.
