Gemotions

"Where is it?" John muttered, his voice barely audible. He'd gone out to grab some groceries, a simple errand. The world had tilted on its axis. The sight of the empty space, the barrenness where his beloved old car had been, robbed him of his breath.

He circled the area, as if expecting the car to magically reappear. It was a foolish act, a desperate attempt to cling to the familiar. He felt an inexplicable, chilling sense of violation.

He noticed the neighbor watching, a flicker of curiosity on her face. John averted his gaze, the sudden awareness of observation adding to his discomfort. He turned and walked back into the house, each step heavy, filled with a dread he couldn’t name. He felt adrift.
