He had purchased the book for its beautiful illustrations, intending to use it for his art project. He hadn't expected to find anything more than an interesting read. Instead, a handwritten letter fell out.

He felt a tightness in his chest as he read the words, the story of a lost love, a life cut short. He closed the book. The weight of the world seemed to settle on his shoulders. He walked to the window. The city lights, usually a comfort, now seemed to mock him with their relentless indifference. He could barely breathe.
