The librarian always loved finding a treasure in the stacks. He'd found a particularly well-loved copy of "The Odyssey" and was enjoying his afternoon, when, between two pages, a fragile note fluttered out. It was a simple love letter, but the words were filled with a raw, desperate intensity.

He felt a chill, a sudden awareness of his own isolation. He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture clumsy and uncharacteristic. The quiet of the library pressed in on him, the silence amplifying the unsettling feeling that had gripped him. He knew he should put it back, report it. He found himself unable to move.
