Gemotions

“Just a few more pages,” she mumbled to herself, her voice a little too loud in the quiet of her apartment. The used copy of “Pride and Prejudice” was almost finished. A small piece of paper slid from between the pages, landing on the floor. She knelt to pick it up.

Her fingers were clumsy as she unfolded the letter. A cry almost escaped her lips as she read. She felt a strange buzzing in her ears. Her hands started to tremble, and she gripped the letter tightly, knuckles white. The story it told was a mirror to her own life, a secret that she thought was buried. She felt a sudden urge to flee, to escape the confines of her apartment, to run from the ghost of her own past.
