The leather felt cold against Elara's trembling fingers. She'd found it tucked under a park bench, practically glowing in the dimming afternoon light. A wallet. A heavy one. Her heart hammered against her ribs, a frantic bird desperate to escape its cage. She glanced around, as if expecting someone to materialize and claim it. No one. Just the rustling leaves and the distant chatter of children. Inside, a thick wad of bills peeked from behind a crisp ID. Her breath hitched. She stuffed the wallet into her own worn purse, her hand lingering on it as if afraid it would vanish.
