The box smelled of lavender and old perfume. Sarah pulled the list out gently, her hands trembling. ‘Visit Paris.’ Her grandmother, who had never left the county. ‘Learn to paint.’ This was a woman who spent her life knitting and baking. A strange jolt went through her body.

Sarah looked around at the meticulously kept house, the embroidered doilies, the perfect flowers in vases. It was a world of order and routine, a life carefully curated. And behind it, this hidden yearning. She stumbled backward, bumping into a table.
