He sat in the car, the engine idling, the air conditioning doing little to soothe his nerves. The list, found in his father’s wallet, sat on the passenger seat. ‘Write a book.’ His father, who had worked as an accountant his whole life. He drummed his fingers on the steering wheel, a restless energy coursing through him.

He was supposed to be at the office. But he couldn't bring himself to go. He felt a profound sense of…disconnection. He looked at the list. “Learn to play guitar.” He felt a strange sort of grief, a hollow ache in his chest.

He turned off the engine, the sudden quiet amplifying the turmoil inside. He had questions, so many questions. He felt adrift. He had to find something to ground him.
