The email pinged. "Construction to begin at 12 Oak Street, expect noise and possible disruption…" The polite, almost apologetic wording didn't even begin to cover it. I slammed my laptop shut. My stomach dropped. I was supposed to be working from home today, preparing for a critical presentation.
