Gemotions

The world had dissolved into a haze of white noise. David found himself frozen, staring out the window. The pleasant, verdant lawn next door was now a chaotic scene of bulldozers and overturned soil. He hadn't even known the Smiths were planning anything. His throat felt tight. He had imagined a quiet afternoon, perhaps some gardening. That possibility, it seemed, had vanished in a puff of engine smoke.

"Unbelievable," he breathed, the words escaping in a breathless whisper. He felt a sudden, inexplicable urge to flee, to escape this scene of utter upheaval. His palms were clammy, and he found himself backing away from the window, as if the demolition crew might somehow reach through the glass.
