Gemotions

The perfume lingered in the air, a scent she didn't recognize. He, Robert, tried to play it cool. It was just a little air freshener, he had said. But now, she, Susan, knew it wasn't. She'd found his phone tucked under the sofa cushion, the call history a litany of unfamiliar names and numbers.

Her fingers felt numb as she scrolled through the list. The living room suddenly felt hostile, the soft furnishings, the photographs on the wall, mocking her. The space that had always felt like home, now felt like a cage.

Robert walked into the room, whistling. He saw her staring at the phone. His face paled, his eyes widened slightly. He said nothing.
