"I can't believe we almost got arrested!" Leo laughed, leaning back in his chair. He was recounting the time they'd snuck into the old movie theatre. He painted a picture of reckless abandon, of narrowly escaping the police.

Alex’s breath hitched. His recollection was muted, filled with trepidation, and a quick retreat once they realized that the theatre was closed. He had a clear memory of sneaking out, avoiding any potential confrontation. He remembered being scared. The story that Leo was telling felt alien. Alex’s hand tightened into a fist. He looked out the window, at the setting sun, finding the view utterly absorbing.
