The email – a simple, innocuous "See you tonight, can't wait!" – sat open on my laptop screen. Then, a new email popped up from the same sender, but to a different recipient. "Can't wait to see you either!" The name attached was not mine. It was a name I recognized: Chloe, my sister’s best friend. My breath caught in my throat. I stared at the screen, the cursor blinking, each line of text a fresh betrayal. The blood drained from my face, and the room grew dim. I ran a hand through my hair, unable to process the betrayal.
