A cold sweat slicked my palms. I’d stumbled upon the account while trying to clear space on the family iPad. It was a TikTok profile, labeled with a string of numbers that seemed to mock my cluelessness. My son, Mark, the video game obsessed kid, the polite and well-mannered boy, was… rapping? There were videos of him with other kids I didn't know, spitting rhymes I didn't understand, surrounded by graffiti and loud music. My breath hitched in my throat. I felt like I was standing in a doorway to a world I wasn't invited into.
