The silence that descended after the elevator shuddered to a halt was unsettling to Philip. He swallowed hard, a lump forming in his throat. He glanced at the other person with him, knowing that they would have to find a way to make the best of this situation.

He kept glancing at the door, as if he could will it to open. His mind raced, imagining all the things that could go wrong. He suddenly felt the need to apologize for something, anything.

He struggled to catch his breath, the air in the elevator suddenly feeling thin. His hands started to tremble, a visible manifestation of the tension building inside him. He felt as though he might burst. His mouth was dry, his tongue sticking to the roof of his mouth.
