Liam unearthed the letter tucked between the pages of his father's old journal. He'd been expecting stories of fishing trips and philosophical musings, not this. He ran a hand through his hair, the strands catching on the paper, momentarily obscuring the words. He felt his face flush.

He reread the lines, the typed words now seeming aggressive, each sentence a rebuke. The reasons for his father's departure from the high-powered law firm were laid bare: a lack of fulfillment, a yearning for something "more." More? Liam always pictured his father as having it all.

He pushed away from the desk, the chair scraping loudly against the wooden floor. The room swam for a moment. He walked to the window, the autumn light reflecting off the rain-streaked glass. His father had never alluded to these feelings. Not once.
