The cramped apartment felt suffocating. Amelia clutched the letter, its yellowed paper crackling like dry leaves. She had been searching for her aunt's old jewelry box, not for this. A letter of resignation, typed on heavy stationery, detailing her aunt’s sudden departure from the opera company.

Her fingers tightened around the paper. It was signed with her aunt's elegant signature, a name that was, up until now, synonymous with unwavering dedication to her craft. The words spoke of a dream deferred, of artistic compromises, of a life she no longer wished to live.
