"Mom?" Mark's voice was a croak, barely audible above the whirring of the old vacuum cleaner. He'd found the letter tucked away in a dusty box of childhood mementos. His father's handwriting, loopy and familiar, but the words… they were a complete revelation.

The letter was a resignation from his father's company. It detailed a series of shady deals and the internal corruption within the firm. The man he knew, the pillar of their community, the one who always preached honesty… had been complicit?

Mark’s chest tightened. He sat heavily on the worn sofa, the letter now crumpled in his hand. The familiar scent of lemon furniture polish in the air suddenly felt noxious. He couldn't reconcile the man described in the letter with the father he had always loved and respected.
