The first thing Sarah noticed was the truck parked across her driveway. Then came the piles of lumber, the dust, and the incessant drone of power tools. The Hansons had begun their “home office expansion.”

She bit her lip, a tiny crease forming between her eyebrows. She’d been enjoying the tranquility of her afternoon, finally catching up on her reading. Now, her peace was shattered.

She’d heard the Hansons’ plans, their excited descriptions of a spacious new workspace. She wasn’t convinced. Usually these things ended up being a lot of fuss for very little real gain. She closed her book and walked into her kitchen, pouring herself a large glass of wine, wondering when this would end.
