Liam reread the DNA results, the words blurring before his eyes. "Possible Father: John Smith." He laughed, a short, sharp sound that echoed in the empty apartment. He knew his parents, knew their story. They had always been open about everything. He’d never even considered anything else.

He ran a hand through his hair, pacing the living room. The apartment felt too small, the walls closing in. He reached for his phone, scrolling through his contacts. He hesitated before calling his mother. What would he even say?

He finally decided to leave it for the morning. He spent the rest of the night watching television, the images on the screen flickering and uninteresting. He could not focus, he kept replaying everything he knew about his life in his head.
