The realtor, a woman with a relentlessly sunny disposition, smiled at Liam. “Think of it as a fresh start!” she beamed. Liam stared at the for sale sign, his jaw tight. Fresh start. Right.

He’d heard the stories of his grandfather, the man who built the house with his own two hands. He had heard about the many improvements over the years, the way the house slowly molded to accommodate a growing family. It had been his father's home too. Now it was just a plot of land and a distant memory.

He ran a hand over his face. He should be relieved. He'd done the right thing. It was a burden, this house. He checked the time, then he checked it again. The lawyer said everything was in order, but the feeling in his gut was a terrible, churning mess.
