"No way," Brenda said, her voice a near-silent hiss. She was crouched by her daughter’s desk. The account had been displayed on the screen. It was all so innocent, a cute little profile.

Brenda stood up, and then sat down again. She looked for any sign of a lie, but it just wasn't there. She felt a strange tingling sensation in her fingers, almost a need to touch the phone. Her own phone was in her pocket.

Brenda felt a chill crawl down her spine. Her daughter, Lily, was usually so straightforward, so… predictable. This felt like a trick, a clever hoax. Yet, the persistent thrum of doubt kept her from dismissing it outright.
