The music at the bar throbbed, a relentless beat that echoed the pounding in Daniel's chest. Liam had spotted him across the crowded room, his face lighting up with genuine delight. But when Liam began to reminisce, Daniel felt a cold wave wash over him.

Liam spoke of shared experiences, but their descriptions were twisted, unrecognizable. He mentioned a bike accident, but the details were completely off. He referred to a pet cat they’d had as children, but it had been a dog. Daniel felt his jaw clench, his knuckles turning white as he gripped his drink.

"Wait," Daniel interrupted, his voice raspy. "Are you… are you sure that was me? Because I… I don't remember any of that." He took a long swig of his beer, the liquid doing nothing to soothe his disquiet.

Liam's face fell, a flicker of confusion crossing his features. "Of course, it was you, Danny! Who else would it be?"

Daniel searched Liam’s eyes, desperate for a hint of recognition, a flicker of the past. He found nothing.
