David watched Liam across the picnic table, the sun warming his face but doing nothing to melt the ice that had begun to form in his chest. Liam was regaling him with tales of their shared summer camp, but the details were all wrong.

The events he described, the camp counselors, even the name of the camp itself, didn't match David's memories. David felt his stomach churn. He picked at a stray crumb on the table, trying to appear nonchalant.

"Wait," David finally said, his voice flat. "That doesn't sound right." He kept his gaze fixed on the crumb.

Liam paused, a look of puzzlement flashing across his face. "What do you mean?"

"The name of the camp… the activities… I don't remember any of that." David avoided eye contact, focusing on the way the sunlight dappled through the trees.

Liam shrugged, a dismissive gesture. "Maybe you just have a bad memory."

David said nothing, simply picking at another crumb.
