Gemotions

A coldness settled in Ben's chest as he read the email. His fingers fumbled with the mouse, almost dropping it. He had expected this outcome, of course. His gut had been telling him all along.

He walked past the break room and saw his rival, Lisa, the new department head, already pouring herself a celebratory coffee. Her laughter boomed across the room, grating on his nerves. He kept walking.

He closed his office door and sat down. He stared out the window, watching the city go by. He knew better than to think everything was fair in this world.
