Gemotions

The first thought that entered her mind upon receiving the email was, "Of course." It was an almost instinctive reaction. She took a long, slow swallow of her coffee, the caffeine doing little to quell the familiar knot in her stomach.

She eyed the congratulations message, but she didn’t read it. Her gaze drifted toward Michael, the "chosen one," standing by the water cooler. He was holding court, already surrounded by well-wishers. She stayed put.

She knew the game. She had played it before, and she was already planning the next move. She might not show her disappointment.
