The phone vibrated on the coffee table. Sarah picked it up, already anticipating the call. It was likely from David, reporting the disaster. She could picture him, head cocked, voice filled with mock devastation.

"Are you sure it fell *entirely* on your property?" she asked, her tone carefully neutral. She was already picturing the long, expensive process of dealing with insurance. The inconvenience.

She ran a hand through her hair, smoothing down stray strands. She had been meaning to put a new roof on the house. This was just another expense. She listened to David’s woes, thinking of the estimate she was going to have to get.
