Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee did nothing to soothe the knot in John’s stomach. He eyed the offered mug with suspicion, as if it contained some sort of poison. He wasn't sure he could trust it. Across from him sat Dr. Parker. He used to call her ‘the beast.’ She'd stolen his favorite toy at recess.

He took a careful sip.

Her office was immaculate, too perfect. He found himself looking for flaws, anything to undermine the veneer of competence. He was prepared to walk out, he decided. He wouldn’t be intimidated. The thought provided a flicker of satisfaction.
