Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the storm brewing inside David. He’d found the account nestled amongst his wife Emily's old tax documents, a hidden treasure trove. The sheer size of it was bewildering. He sat at the desk, tapping a pen against his teeth, his brow furrowed.

He re-read the balance, then again. It was a staggering amount. He knew Emily had always been careful with money, but this was more than careful; it was secretive. A coldness crept over him. He felt as if a mask had been removed, and he wasn't sure what he was looking at.

He thought of all the times they'd discussed their financial future, all the collaborative planning. How could she have done this? Was she planning something?
