"Did you hear?" The question hung in the air of the student coffee shop, spoken by a classmate. David gave a noncommittal shrug. He’d heard something, but he hadn't fully processed the information. He was too busy enjoying his latte and writing a paper.

"They're saying the university's closing down."

David raised an eyebrow, taking another sip of his coffee. The words hung in the air. He glanced over at the bulletin board, where the official announcement was already tacked up alongside the job postings. He scanned the notice. Bureaucratic language. Empty platitudes. He tapped his pen against the table.

He didn't *feel* anything. His gaze drifted around the coffee shop, observing the other students. Most of them seemed distraught. He would wait. He would see. He would believe it when the doors were locked and the faculty were gone.
