The afternoon sun, usually a source of warmth, felt like a burden on her eyelids. Clara stared at the email, the words a jumbled mess. A profound sense of weariness stole over her. She leaned against the cool wall, her muscles aching with a fatigue that went beyond physical exertion.

Her thoughts seemed to move in slow motion, sluggish and heavy. The silence of the empty classroom amplified the feeling of being utterly drained, of being empty. The weight of the application, the hopes, the sacrifices - they were all for nothing.

She slowly sank to the floor, pulling her knees to her chest. The world felt muffled, distant. All she wanted was to fade away, to not have to think about anything.
