Gemotions

A wave of exhaustion washed over Daniel as the best man began his speech. He rubbed his eyes, the pressure behind them growing. The room felt warm, almost stifling, and the rhythmic thump of the bass drum seemed to vibrate directly through him. He fought to keep his eyes open, battling the urge to slump forward onto the table. He'd been looking forward to this wedding, but the long drive and lack of rest were starting to take their toll.

He spotted Emily across the room, laughing with a group of friends. His breath hitched slightly. He hadn’t seen her in months, and the sight of her, radiant and happy, felt like a punch to the gut. He took a sip of water, hoping the coolness would revive him, but the relief was fleeting.

He needed air, he thought, pushing himself up from his chair. The world tilted slightly as he walked toward the balcony.
