The insistent buzzing of the alarm clock was a personal affront. Oliver smacked it, silencing the offending noise but not the pervasive feeling of utter exhaustion. Every muscle ached. He had pulled an all-nighter finishing a project, and the thought of facing the day was almost unbearable.

A loud banging at the door jolted him. It was the mailman, looking bewildered. "Your car…?" he stammered, pointing towards the street. Oliver walked outside to see his car gone. He felt a numb acceptance wash over him. His brain struggled to form a coherent thought. All he wanted was to lie down and shut his eyes.
