“Reunion? Seriously?” He tossed the invitation onto the counter with a thud. His shoulders sagged. The midday sun was beating down, creating a hazy atmosphere.

He just wanted to lie down. The thought of getting dressed, driving, and pretending to be someone he wasn't felt exhausting. He found himself yawning, the action stretching his face. The kitchen, normally his sanctuary, suddenly felt oppressive.

The air felt thick and heavy, like a humid summer day. He leaned against the counter, his knees feeling weak. He felt himself drifting, the mundane tasks of the day suddenly feeling like a mammoth undertaking. Maybe he’d just stay put, and skip this one.
