The office air hung thick and stale around David. He felt a profound weariness, a deep ache in his bones that no amount of coffee seemed to alleviate. He stared blankly at the spreadsheets, the numbers swimming before his eyes. He leaned back in his chair, trying to ward off the heavy feeling. The phone buzzed. It was a forwarded email. The subject line: "Record Profits for 'The Spicy Señorita' Salsa!" He scrolled through the email, his stomach churning. "The Spicy Señorita?" That was the name he'd given his salsa. The recipe he’d given to a friend… who’d apparently become a millionaire. He let out a long, drawn-out sigh.
