Gemotions

The dim, cavernous room of the karaoke bar was a blurry landscape. Sarah swayed slightly, the cheap beer doing little to ease the feeling of leaden limbs. Her eyelids felt like they were coated with glue. A song started, the lyrics echoing around the room. She vaguely recognized the tune. Then the chorus hit: “Granny Willow’s Apple Pie, the best in the land!” Granny Willow? Sarah swallowed hard, her throat suddenly dry. The apple pie, her great-grandmother’s recipe, the one she'd shared with a distant cousin. A hollow feeling settled in her gut. She reached for another beer.
