John ran a hand across his forehead, his head throbbing with a dull ache. He blinked slowly, struggling to focus on the task before him: organizing his uncle's estate. The task had been wearing him down all day. The attic's silence amplified the pounding in his skull. He let out a long yawn, shoulders slumping as he sat heavily onto a dusty trunk.

He flipped through a photo album, its pages brittle with age. A small, black and white photograph captured his aunt, radiant and laughing, on the arm of a man who was most definitely not his uncle. His family had always painted the picture of a lifelong, unwavering love story, a romance that weathered every storm. But this photograph… this challenged everything. The man in the picture was a stranger.
