The vibrant colors of the art gallery seemed to bleed together. Anna felt a peculiar detachment from the scene. The news from Emily, a move to France, had knocked the wind out of her. Her head throbbed dully, a slow, relentless percussion.

She trailed her fingers along the smooth surface of a sculpture, the action devoid of interest. The crowd’s chatter seemed to fade into a dull hum. She felt an overwhelming sense of lethargy, a profound desire to simply cease.
