Gemotions

The concert hall was filled with music, but Martha barely heard it. She leaned back in her chair, the velvet fabric scratching against her skin. The strains of the orchestra felt distant, the notes weaving in and out of her consciousness. Her head felt fuzzy, and her eyelids felt weighed down. She closed her eyes for just a moment.

A usher approached her and handed her a folded piece of paper. It was a note, addressed to her from someone from her past. The handwriting was unmistakable. He had said terrible things. She felt a wave of dizziness wash over her. She tried to focus on the words, but they seemed to dance on the page. She simply wanted it to end.
