Gemotions

The hum of the refrigerator filled the kitchen as Emily poured herself a glass of water. A weariness had settled over her, a tangible thing. She glanced at the kitchen table, where Mark, her husband, was hunched over his laptop. The familiar tap-tap-tap of the keys filled the space.

She moved closer, pulled by something she couldn't name. She saw the familiar image of her face on the cover of a book, a book with a title she didn't recognize. Her name was also there, in a section of the book.

He had woven a story around her, around them. The words on the screen blurred, and she felt the blood drain from her face.
