The shovel felt heavy in Elias’s hands. The afternoon sun beat down, and his eyelids felt like lead weights. He’d been aimlessly wandering around the overgrown garden of his newly purchased house, searching for… well, he wasn't quite sure. He’d just felt a compulsion to dig. The earth yielded reluctantly, and after a few frustrating minutes, the shovel struck something solid. He leaned heavily on the handle, his breath coming in shallow gasps. A metal box emerged, encrusted with mud and rust. He didn't recognize it. A hazy fog seemed to cloud his memory, a persistent sense of disorientation making it difficult to focus.

He sat on the damp grass, the box at his feet. Cracking it open, he squinted at the contents. A faded photograph, a cassette tape, and a small, leather-bound journal. He lifted the journal, his head bobbing. The first page was scrawled with his own handwriting, a date from years ago. He felt a profound, disconnected ache. Why would he have buried this? What was he meant to remember? The questions swam in his mind, blurring around the edges, making him want to just… stop.
